It’s easy for a parent to lose control of his or her child. Life
is hectic and most parents have to work one, sometimes two jobs just to stay on
top of all the bills. Realizing that this is a sign of the times, smart entrepreneurs
have started coming up with ways to help busy parents out. One type of product that’s
proven extremely useful is parent control software – software that helps a parent
control a child’s computer use.
Automatic shutdown software
How can parent
control software help parents? Well, for starters, there is
software that will automatically
turn off the computer during the times that have been established by parents. It’s
very difficult for parents to limit their children’s pc access when they are not
home. Parents can make such requests and even threaten to punish their children
for disobeying, but up until now, it was impossible for them to push the OFF button
remotely.
Automatic shutdown software gives control back to parents by enabling
them to determine when and for how long their children can be online. Parents can
program the software to shut off and remain off for minutes, hours and even for
days at a time! They can program the pc shutdown feature during the afternoons when
their children should be focusing on their homework and during those hours when
children are supposed to be sleeping.
Parent control software
There also is
software that enables a parent to control access to specific computer programs
installed on the hard drive or accessible via the Internet. All the parent has to
do is type in the names of the software programs they do not want their children
to access from the computer. These can be any programs including instant messaging
and computer games.
With the list of software program names in place, computer access
is denied. The only person who can grant access to the program is the person who
knows the correct password!
Monitoring software
An assortment of monitoring software
exists to help parents monitor all sorts of activity. For example, there is monitoring
software that tracks every single keystroke the child makes. With this type of monitoring
software installed, parents know exactly what their children are saying while online.
You know what’s in their chat logs and more.
There is also monitoring software that
will send an email to parents whenever the software detects what it believes is
“objectionable” or “questionable” material on the computer on which it has been
installed. It does not turn off the PC in question, nor does it restrict PC access.
Instead, it’s like having a set of eyes constantly watching to see what’s being
done with the computer.
And there’s plenty more. If you’ve got children and if those
children spend any time at all on the computer, it’s worth the effort to check out
all the parent control software that’s available. It might not be something you
need now, but it’s definitely good to know parent control software is there when
you need it!
